Days 40 - 52

The long awaited update to The Gilbert Shift is finally here. It seems like a long time (almost 2 weeks) since my last post. I've had friends stay with us from out of town and their parting gift was giving me a cold! Well I'm officially in the "Under 300" club (a fictitious club I made up to honor me weighing in under 300 lbs.) My knee is doing much better, I'm still going to keep the knee brace on during work outs though, I think it looks cool.... hahahaha. I'm still not able to substitute my beer for a lower carb/calorie alternative. I've been sick for the past week now and have missed a couple of days of boot camp, but I've still managed to go at least twice a week last week and again this week. I'm donning a fancy new "pedometer" and will add that to my daily blogs when I remember to wear it. It says you're supposed to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. That's a lot of steps, unless you walk 9 holes of golf! I played twilight golf the other night and only got through 7 holes, but managed to walk half a days quota within' that time frame... not bad. I'm curious to see what the pedometer reads after a cardio boot camp session. My dad has decided he wants to join boot camp after his golf league, mid September. He said "if" I was still doing it, he'd join lol. I'm in it for the long haul pops, I hope you can hang!

Sorry again for the lack of updates lately, that's totally lame on my part...

Day 39

Knee is feeling ok, it will be good to have a few days off it to recover. Today my trainer came to the store to make some copies and I happened to be out to lunch (which rarely happens) and he calls me, "Where are you at? What are you eating? Don't make me come over there and check up on you!" hahahaha! I was good though, Buffalo Wild Wings has a few healthy choices on their menu, and I was good.... other than the 2 beers I gulped down (sooo tasty) I know I should be drinking the rum and diet, but sometimes beers just taste so darn good, especially outside on a nice warm day.

Looking forward to the weekend.... thank you!

Breakfast - skipped

Day 38

Ok, so some people have told me they've been having problems leaving comments on my blog for some reason. Click Here for Comment Help.

My left knee has been aching really bad the past couple of days, started on Day 36 after boot camp. I hyper-extended my knee about 16 years ago and it's always given me a little grief here and there, but Monday night was bad. It hurt just to bend it, right in the middle of my knee, behind my knee cap... I'm one to shrug off pain and just "walk it off", but Tuesday it was still bothering me when I bent down. Today I went to AMS in Pontiac and they set me up with a "Safe T Sport" Neoprene Knee Sleeve. I wore it today and honestly felt like the compression was doing me good with the exercises. I was instructed to leave it on for a while after working out too for the compression benefits and possibly ice it if it's still sore. It's not really sore right now... I think the science lies in the"Open Patella" You can pick these up cheap at www.ForYourLegs.com

By the way, ANYONE looking to join me M,W & Thurs for boot camp is welcome. I have several 2 week free unlimited passes. You could go every day of the week if you'd like... if you can ;) In addition to the boot camp sessions, you can take advantage of the Zumba & Yoga classes as well. Just email me Jimmy@cepsocks.com and I'll hook you up! You don't even have to go with me if your schedule doesn't permit, but it's well worth the trail period NO STRINGS ATTACHED! I promise you won't be disappointed. If I can do it, you can! People have been asking me to send some motivation their way, so here it is... TAKE IT!!

Breakfast - skipped
Lunch - Chicken Sandwich (addicted to Panera Bread now)

Day 33, 34, 35, 36 & 37

The weekly weigh in was a bust... only half a pound down from the previous week. How disappointing is that!? I guess I really need to be more careful on the weekends???? I'm not pigging out on food, and the 1 time I do try to hatch down as much as I can, I'm only able to eat 1 plate full! (pizza, chicken, hotdog & mashed potatoes... it was my brothers b-day bbq, and I couldn't even eat the ice cream cake that was a few hours later) I was told that during this first month, with the training I'm doing I'm building some muscle mass too, so the weight loss numbers aren't going to reflect as hard as I'm working. I know I'm losing weight because my clothes are fitting better, but the damn scale says "BERRRMP!"

My cousins will be joining me on Day 38 at VIP Fitness for their 2 week trial. I hope they like it as much as I do.

We did the 600 workout again (600 reps of 7 or 8 different exercises racing against the clock to beat your old time) The first time I had was 26 minutes, 2 weeks later I beat my time by 9 minutes clocking in at 17 minutes. Monday I was happy to report that I had beat my previous record by another full minute at 16 minutes! Very grueling exercise although it only lasts 16 minutes it takes everything you've got to finish it. You're yelling "DONE" in between gasps of air! Then we finished the class with some miscelleanous lunges, quick steps, etc. etc.

There was yet another prize give-away at boot camp Monday and guess who won??? Oh yeah..hahaha, it wasn't by performance though, (although I kicked major ace, lots of people were getting times of 12 & 13 minutes) I was just lucky, I was asked to pick a number between 1 - 20 and 17 was the winning number! I get a Full 1 hour massage at Belle Visage Spa in Clarkston. The place looks awesome, I'll give a full report when I get it done.

Day 32

Today marks the final day for the 1st week of my "3-days a week" commitment. We did a combination of Cardio and Strength training. My triceps are just about done for... my abs and arms really ache. I gotta' give props to my pseudo training partner Matt for sticking it out with me all 3 days. We're typically paired off together due to the fact that we're close in size. It's great working out with everyone, but Matt and I seem to push each other. I can't speak for him, but I feel that I should keep up with him in the drills... and he claims he hasn't played any sports in years but I find myself falling behind a lot of times and I DO push myself harder to keep up. Here I've been playing volleyball for the past 4 or 5 years thinking "Yeah,... I'm active.. I exercise" well, there's something to be said about a BEER LEAGUE!

Now on to something TOTALLY off topic... today was an odd day at work, we had a couple celebrities come into the store today! Funniest freakin' thing ever. Thanks to the quick wit of my cohort JTL, we spotted John Malkovich and Ross Perot! The best part was trying to place them at the right spot where he could take the picture without them knowing along with the screen shot of the "look-alike" I can't last long without busting out laughing so that takes me to the back of the store, leaving Josh to keep his straight face composure. I think we embarked on a new game here at the store, what do you think? Mind you, these people had no idea we were doing a "separated at birth" on them, and if you know these people, sorry, but come on! LOL

Day 27, 28 & 29

Yet another eventful weekend with a birthday party, graduation party, house painting project, and work. I was hoping to get a bike ride in at some point but I really never had the time. I have failed with riding my bike to work on the days I'm not working out... I had high hopes for that, and I still plan on doing it at some point, but I'm so busy with work and outside projects right now that I really can't justify it. Excuses, excuses :)

I'm not happy to report that this weekend was full of beer consumption with all the festivities going on, but I stuck to my good, sensible eating routine. I have my wife to thank as Saturday night we made a pit stop to 7-11 on our way back from the graduation party and I wanted pizza sticks sooo bad, instead she came back with an individual sized popcorn and some beef jerky, I was pissed! I told her I wasn't happy, but I'd thank her in the morning. Thanks again Leah!

Boot camp today was intense as usual and during the warm up session I had my ever repeating thoughts going through my mind as I'm sucking for air during these drills "This hurts, it reminds me of hell week. I need to take a break. I need water. When is this going to get easier? This is torture." but then I focused on the goals I have and why I'm doing this. Dr. Mike (From V.I.P. Training) sent out an email to everyone that detailed a technique to trick your mind into not dreading working out, but rather focus on the satisfaction you feel after a good work out. It was pretty detailed and it involved an exercise to help focus on the positive. I haven't tried the actual exercise, but the message came through crystal clear and at a good time too. These guys really know their stuff! I still have my "This is crazy!" thoughts during my work outs, but focusing on the end result is what get's me there, now 3 days a week!

Official 30 day weigh in tomorrow morning!

Food:
Breakfast - Sausage, egg & cheese biscuit (I'm going to catch hell for this)
Lunch - Grilled chicken breast & side salad
Snack - half turkey sandwich (I needed some carbs before boot camp, I was so tired)
Dinner - Protein Shake
